Uplift Members

If you have enthusiasm, a positive attitude,
and the desire to learn complex skills - I have a long-term career opportunity for you in a fun and fulfilling Health and Fitness Coaching job starting at $20/hour!

Hello! Thanks so much for being here.

Let me tell you about Uplift and the opportunity in front of you.

Uplift Strength & Spirit in Washington, DC is a boutique strength training studio focused on holistic health and fitness. We specialize in strength training, nutrition, lifestyle habits, and overall wellness.

My name is Nancy Townsend and I am the owner and founder of Uplift Strength & Spirit. In the time since I launched Uplift in May 2016, our team has attracted and created a community of clients passionate about and accountable to achieving results. Our clientele is made up of a diverse group of working professionals, who are serious about getting healthy for life. Many clients are brand new to strength training and learning how to balance their nutrition and lifestyles. Many may already be active before joining Uplift, but have struggled to get results through other programs or personal trainers. They come to Uplift to receive a total fitness solution. They know they need to exercise and eat well, yet they have struggled to find a supportive environment that offers a complete solution to their health and fitness concerns. The team at Uplift Strength & Spirit specializes in creating individualized nutrition and fitness programs and in providing guidance and personal coaching in order to help each of our clients bring forth their very best.

Our members are excited by Uplift's individualized approach to exercise and nutrition for each client and the close attention they receive in each session. Clients come to us when they are serious about making changes to achieve real transformation.

Uplift's staff focuses on providing our clients with the highest level of customer service by authentically connecting to and caring for each individual. Our space is a safe and nonjudgemental place to be coached by knowledgeable experts that approach training from a holistic, functional training perspective.

Uplift Strength & Spirit is located at 1232 M St NW, just a block east of Thomas Circle in Downtown. If you are hired for this job, to start you'll come to be trained to coach in midday and afternoon hours, shadowing classes in the early morning (5:45-10:00am) and evening (5:00-7:45pm), and, after being trained, you'll help co-coach classes with our head trainer and lead trainer. This is an hourly based job starting at $20 per hour to coach classes and there is a 2-week trial period.

YOUR MISSION

To lead Uplift Strength & Spirit's clients with a positive, cheerful attitude and a can-do approach to all work. To be coachable to learn best-practice exercise technique, to improve coaching skills, and to be a supportive member of Uplift's team.

Day-to-day jobs can include:

  1. Opening and closing the studio (stocking items, towel laundry, emptying trash)
  2. Setting up for clients arrival and putting away equipment after training sessions
  3. Keeping client records accurate
  4. Checking clients into classes and helping with scheduling
  5. Most importantly: coaching clients on proper form, guiding and motivating them during each session, connecting on a deeper level about their health and passions. If it's unnatural to you to care for and authentically connect with anyone, this job won't be a fit for you.
  6. Make the clients feel important and loved with the little things we do
  7. Pitching ideas that align with our core values and mission
  8. Potential for getting into sales to new members, leading meetings with current clients, screening new members, marketing, and more!

What's at Your Core?

Honor our word through action – high integrity to follow through on commitments, pay close attention to detail, and communicate fearlessly and compassionately

Transform our community and beyond – your personal performance and team performance should be nothing short of the best, be consistent in taking the actions that move ourselves and clients forward, increase our membership by hitting our goals and driving referrals, acknowledge and share how our clients transform with broader community

Self-care while caring for others – taking care of others requires you to take care of yourself, through exercise, nutrition, and continuing education, continue to explore your personal vision and review progress with supervisors regularly

Required Skills

Interest in Becoming Your Best Self – You must be pursuing personal goals (health, emotionally, educationally, growing your career, personally) and open to exploring new possibilities for yourself and your life

Attention to Detail
– Be thorough and deliberate in your actions and communications

Google Docs

Google Sheets
You must have basic spreadsheet skills. We don’t do anything advanced with this software, just some simple spreadsheets, but you must be comfortable doing what I need you to do.

Thoughtfulness and Organization
– I need you to be able to think for yourself and be organized. I am very serious about this one. I do not want a robot, I want someone who learns and grows with me.

You are not required to have any strength training coaching or to have even stepped foot in a gym. I am looking for amazing HUMANS that I can coach into becoming incredible coaches. You will positively impact countless lives in this work. That does not depend on how perfect your squat coaching is, it requires your absolute passion to help others and your true intention to help each and every client transform and reach their goals.

Owner & Head Coach

P. S.

This is not a corporate type of structured job. I am an entrepreneurial small business owner.  I move quickly to capitalize on opportunities. This is also not the type of job where just showing up is enough. Performance is everything to me. If you perform, you will be rewarded. I want nothing more than to find a person who takes real interest in doing good work and contributing to the growth of the business. If that's you, I promise that $20/hour is only the starting point. I recognize and reward performance.

With all that said, as I mentioned in the headline on this page, enthusiasm and a positive attitude go a long way in my book. I’m a very positive, upbeat person and appreciate those qualities in others. As long as you have the skills I mentioned, and a great attitude, you’re definitely a candidate!
